I wrote this one crawling – with many relapses – back to health after my first COVID episode, September 2021. It was hot, I don't really like summer, and I had the idea of reversing the rite of spring – if nature required my life in order to restore to the world the blessings of winter I was ready to die. Anytime I felt strong enough to sit up I'd grab the guitar and make sure I hadn't forgotten the opening chords. And I lived.
lyrics
Air this dense you can't breathe
I'm a summer casualty
Without a glimpse ahead
World won't wake till winter again
Who'll die to bring it?
She pulls each day like a shawl
Around herself
Till the color's right
And she's painted out the aberrations
No telling who'll see her tomorrow
Bring the winter again.
