The working title for Overseas was Lycanthropy, because I figure if there are too many motion lights ever to get a good view of the full moon we'll evolve werewolves that transform when hit by motion lights. Anne isn't one, but streetlights in November evoke in her intimations of the loneliest journey.
(The intro depicts a wintery swamp, the highest note on the piano repeating like the creaks of frozen trees – you're looking out on this expanse of leaning spears, the horizon red. One guitar takes the drone and the other two range above and below.)
lyrics
Twilight in a Frozen Marsh in December - Wilton Land Conservancy, December 2021
Overseas
Ann walks alone
The streetlights are stronger than the moon
That pulls the tide
She's a streetlight lycanthrope
Shuffle through the broken gold
Fallen halos of trees of bones
They're ahead of you
Already overseas
Crossing the wide sea.
Gets wider ever year
The gap you got to bridge
Between the sky
And everyone who says he sees the sky
You lonely thing
You heartbroke chameleon
It's not about a friend.
